WELCOME TO THE ROYAL OAK
We are a friendly country pub with delicious locally sourced food, a well stocked cellar, six cosy bedrooms and a very warm welcome.
The Royal Oak Inn is a wonderful blend of traditional 18th century architecture and fresh stylish modern interior design.
Nestled in the charming Wiltshire village of Swallowcliffe near Tisbury, The Royal Oak Inn is the perfect rural hideaway.
The former historic tannery building has been an inn since 1852 and is perfectly placed as a base to explore the Wessex region,
steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty.
Until recently it had lay dormant and closed to the public for over 7 years, and in 2015 The Royal Oak was lovingly
renovated, reloved and revived by three of our village residents and their friend from across the valley.
Men on a mission to restore a much missed traditional pub to the heart of the local community.
“We simply wanted to make a pub where people leave happier than when they arrived”
Carl, Joe, Danny and the rest of the team look forward to welcoming you to our village pub.
We are so thrilled to announce that we have had some wonderful write ups and reviews
in the Sunday Times magazine, Wiltshire Life, The Daily Mail and Country Child.
This year we have also won The Good Hotel Guide Cesar Award for Best Newcomer 2017....
Head Chef Danny Du Rose and his team of amazing chefs
are passionate about creating delicious, seasonal dishes.
We proudly support our local producers, farmers and suppliers.

“..I now cast my arm to the North where the dark and wooded undulations of the Vale of Wardour offer a broad interruption to the ubiquitous chalk ridges and plains of South Wiltshire. With the uniform chalk layer disturbed and removed by some distant upheaval it is a place of exposed rock, clay and water seepages where the River Nadder collects its sandy and snaking character before conforming to the rules of the River Avon at Salisbury Cathedral.”
